When we speak of tile, we refer to the tiling that we can find in schools, offices, hospitals, restaurants, residential homes, public buildings, shopping malls, airports, shopping centers, bus stations, condos and apartments, even in some industrial complexes. In general, tiles are made of materials such as ceramic, porcelain, glass, granite, stone, quartz, and a host of other materials. The most common materials used in tile production are granite, clay, fiberglass, marble, ceramic, wood, and concrete. The most common application of tiles is flooring, walls, ceilings, and roofs.
Tiling is not just limited to floors. There are different types of tiles, such as wall tiles, countertops, baseboards, and floor tiles. Wall tiles are used to cover the wall spaces enclosed by the roof structure. Overhead wall tiles are installed over the curtain walls and they are often used to provide insulation to the building from external weather conditions. Overhead tiles are often found in metal structures such as buildings, bridges, ships, and underground pipes.
